The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Богородице-Рождественская церковь) can be found off of the R107, down an un -named road in the center of the small village of Shestakovo, Volokolamsk Raion, Moskovskaya oblast’, Russia.
A little over 13 kilometers away from the Joseph Volokolamsk Monastery this is the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The stunning structure catches all attention of the small town. Bright blue doors with the nativity scene pictured above it. History seems scarce. It is known that this structure is linked to the nearby Joseph Volokolamsk Monastery, however, the date of construction is not stated. Though it was quiet possibly built in the 1800’s. In 1930 it was re-purposed as a Russian Orthodox Church.
In more recent history it has been set to new futures but nothing has come to pass. The yard lays filled with farming equipment. A forgotten vehicle sits in the enclosure. Windows bust out and break more and more over the years. Now almost none remain. The bell tower is falling apart. Ornately decorated, the towers overlook the village. A token of history, to a past of Russia that is filled with religion. The Josephism of religion was heightened during the years of 1479 – 1607.
The crosses atop both steeples remain dominant over the surrounding landscape.
