The Chartreuse de Bel Sito also known as the Chateau des sœurs Papin, chateau abandonné bouliac and chateau de bouliac is on Chemin de Beaufeu and Chemin des Plateaux, the commune of Floirac, Bordeaux, the region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France.
Up on the hillsides of Floirac near the Garonne valley lays the amazingly beautiful and decaying Chartreuse de Bel Sito. The land was purchased in 1825 by Nathaniel Johnston. Here he built the charter house in the 1830’s. He died childless here and Pierre-François Guestier bought the property.
Napoleon the III is said to have visited and noted that this was one of the 3 most beautiful properties in Bordeaux.
The property was purchased in 2006 and several plans to have the site demolished and filled with apartments, a hotel or retirement home have come about. Many local do not wish to see the gorgeous hillside covered in trees and filled with history to have such a fate. As of 2011, it is owned by DOMOFRANCE.
In 2018, some of the property was subject to arson. This property has become a place filled with expression. The interiors and exteriors becoming a testament to extreme graffiti, vandalism and decay. Nature overcoming the walls, engrossing the forgotten relic of history. A beautiful place for escape on the Floirac hillside. Some of these photographs also show the very nearby Chateau du Dragon.
