The formerly abandoned sugar mill (some bits are still under renovation and some parts are still technically abandoned) is at 35265 Willow Avenue in Clarksburg, Yolo county, California.
The sugar mill of Clarksburg was constructed in 1934 which continued until 1936. The mill was owned and established by the Amalgamated Sugar Company, who began in Utah in 1897 (Amalgamted Sugar Company History). This sugar mill was actually brought from Utah, in pieces, to Clarksburg traveling on the railroad. It was the former ‘Smithfield’ sugar cane mill, which closed in 1933, was dismantled and began on a route to its new home in California that same year.
In 1936, the American Crystal Sugar Company, bought the sugar mill and used it until 1982. Delta Sugar Company purchased the sugar cane mill and began to use it for over a decade. The factory closed and was abandoned in 1993.
In 2000, the old sugar mill was renovated and created into a wine tasting and wine crush facility for several wineries. You can check out and visit the Old Sugar Mill by viewing their website.
