The Pines Resort Hotel and Golf Course of the Borscht Belt is on 167 Laurel Avenue, in the hamlet of South Fallsburg, Sullivan County, the Catskill Mountains, New York.
The Pines Resort began in 1933 as a ski resort offering much to do in the ever popular Borscht Belt area of the Catskill Mountains. The large hotel offered a ski chalet, golf course, 400 hotel rooms, theater, nightclub, an indoor and outdoor pool, ice skating rink, tennis courts, poker rooms and so much more. Found stretched across a 96-acre plot of land, the Pines generally thrived.
The Pines Resort closed in 1998, when it was bought by Fallsburg Estates, LLC. Fallsburg Estates filed for bankruptcey in 2002 and declared that the property was worth less than it was assessed for. A little demolition of the property began in 2011.
Some of the now demolished buildings are the Viceroy Room, Persian Room, Wedgewood Room, the indoor pool, the skating rink, the coffee shop and others. As of 2014, some of the former buildings to the Pines Resort are still standing. Several buildings were destroyed by arsonists in 2003, including the Carleton and Ritz staff buildings. A future of demolition is more than likely going to occur to make way for development of 300 homes on the property and re-opening of the ski chalet and golf course.
