The abandoned remains of the Fuchu United States Air Force Communications Station are along Koganei Hgihway, in the city of Fuchu, the Tokyo Metropolis prefecture, Japan.
The Fuchu Communications Air Station was used beginning in 1957 and was used through 1974 by the USFJ Fifth Air Force. It was used as a re-supply base during the Vietnam and Korean Wars. Now, the 2 large 13 meter high parabolic dishes stick out from the overgrown base like 2 eyes searching for their use again. The 2 tropospheric scatter dishes were used to keep radio communication with the Misawa Military Base some miles away. the base was decommissioned sometime during the 1980’s.
The US Air Force Fuchu Communications Station is currently fenced off and off limits to the passing public but many of its remains can be seen by wandering down the many roads surrounding the complex. Though the base is no longer in use there is a red communications antenna and tower still used and the area is patrolled by the United States Forces Japan.
