The Tangalooma wrecked boats are just off the coast of Moreton Island, part of Queensland, Australia.
These 15 ships were purposefully wrecked and sunk to form a break wall off the coast of Moreton Island. This occurred in 1963 when recreational boat owners asked to have something done for safer anchorage. The Maryborough was the first vessel that was sunk along the sandbank. The ships are stated to have been steam dredges and barges that were no longer used by the Harbours and Marine Department.
Today, the ship wrecks remain and have created a spot that marine life has begun to overtake. It is even possible to swim to the ship wrecks from the beach.
