The Castello Di Piattamala can be found on Strada Statale 38a in the town of Tirano in the Valtellina Valley, the province of Sondrio of the Lombardy Region, Italy.
The Castello Di Piattamala is below the border between Italy and Switzerland and marks the frontier between the Valtellina and the Val Poschiavo. It seems to have been built initially as a hydroelectric power plant. It was built in the early 1920’s around 1922. Later it was adapted into a hotel and restaurant. Of the main building all the doors are shut tight and the windows are blocked by railings. The secondary building, however, is missing the door, open to the world and nature. It was being renovated at the time of abandonment and was not properly closed up when the owners and workers left.
From the pictures you can see nature is really coming up on this lovely building, almost even growing into the windows.
The customs building for the Italian Swiss border is just above the former hotel and restaurant, which deter many from having a look around.
As of 2013, it is unknown if there are any plans to restore or re use this large and lovely building. If you know any more information on the Castello Di Piattamala, please comment.
Where is the abandoned Hotel and Restaurant of Castello Di Piattamala located? You can find it with these coordinates. 46.227097,10.147681.
