The Abbey Mills Pumping Station A is located off of Abbey Lane, Stratford, London, E15 2RW, United Kingdom.
The Cathedral of Sewage is a disused historic place built between 1865 and 1868. It was designed by architect Charles Driver and engineers Joseph Bazalgette and Edmund Cooper. Designed in cruciform plan with elaborate Byzantine style, this sewage plant is like no other. It was built on the site of a former watermill owned by the local Abbey, which is how it gained its name.
It is a listed building in the United Kingdom meaning that it is on the Statutory List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest.
The exterior was repainted and slightly fixed up for the London 2012 Olympics.
You can gain access to this site only by special pre-booked tours. Otherwise I am sure you will get in loads of trouble if you try to sneak in here.
This building was also used in Batman Begins in the scene of the Arkham Asylum Laboratory, with The Scarecrow (Cillian Murphy) and Rachel Dawes.
