The ruins of the abandoned Chief Drive-In Theater are on Texas Loop 285 and Texas 133 Spur, the city of Quanah, Hardeman County, Texas.
The town of Quanah began in 1884 as stopping spot for the rail line running between Denver, CO and Fort Worth. The town received its name from the last Comanche Chief, Quanah. Drive-In Theaters became very popular during the 1950’s, even more so in rural areas.
This drive in has stories from at least the later 1950’s and remained standing in good condition until sometime in 2008. It is unclear whether Hurricane Ike had anything to do with the now damaged and ruined Chief Drive-In.
The Chief Drive-In now lies in an extremely advanced state of decay and ruins. Nature will surely reclaim all that physically remains but the memories this drive-in made are happy for many.
